The World Table Tennis Championship has been continuing since 1926, happening every year, generally in April- May of the year. Under this, five individual events take place including-

  • Men’s doubles
  • Women’s doubles
  • Mixed doubles
  • Men’s singles
  • Women’s singles

The World Table Tennis Championship is organized by the International Table Tennis Federation. (ITTF). The ITTF held individual and team events separately for the first time in 1999 and 2000, respectively. Starting in 2003, individual and team events were organized separately again, and each continued to be played independently every other year.

As per the latest records, China has been topping the charts with a total of 407 medals followed by Hungary and Japan with 202 and 157 medals respectively in the World Table Tennis Championship. Here is an interesting fact, Hungary was a dominant team for 12 years in the championship, followed by Japan in the initial years. However, from 1960 onwards, China came to top the list.

The Table Tennis World Cup has been held every year since 1980. Then only men’s singles were played and later on, in 1996, women’s singles were inaugurated. Likewise, team competitions were played from 1990. These competitions are also approved and performed under ITTF.

IITF world tour

ITTF world tour, also known as the ITTF Pro Tour before 2011, is an annual chain of tournaments that was originally introduced by the ITTF in the year 1996.

Moreover, the whole tour is conducted under a total of seven events: Women’s and Men’s Singles, Mixed doubles, Men’s, Women’s and under 21 Women’s and Men’s singles. However, the ITTF World Tour has its point system in which the highest scorers in 7 categories will be invited ti finale.

This is the special tournament is organized for countries of the Americas. Well, the debut match was first played in the year 2017, and the Championship is sponsored by Latin American Table Tennis Union and the Northern American Table Tennis Union. This tournament includes various inter-committee competitions, Men’s Single and Double’s, Women’s Single and Double’s, and mixed doubles.

World Junior Table Tennis Championships

This is an annual table tennis tournament organized for the player under 18. This championship has been held by International Table Tennis Federation since the year 2003.

Its last tournament was held in Bendigo, Australia in the year 2018. Wherein, it includes Men’s Single and Double’s, Women’s Single and Double’s individually.

NCAA Table Tennis Championship

It is the National Collegiate Athletic Association Table Tennis tournament, which is held between February – March every year according to the NCAA season. The first NCAA tournament was held in 1883.

Basically, it is a US-based tournament championship. A total of 63 teams participated in this championship. Additionally, they have various categories of competitions, which includes intercollegiate competitions, Junior’s, Men’s, Women’s Singles, and Doubles.
