It is always interesting to see how a fighter handles a loss. Fans often learn more about fighters after a loss than they do after an emphatic win. However, when the losses start to pile on, it becomes more difficult for the fighter to get mentally and physically ready for the next fight. The same applied to Max Holloway while he was preparing for his fight against Calvin Kattar.

Going into the bout, he was on a two-fight skid. Although many believed that he did not lose the rematch against Volkanovski, officially he was still 0-2 in his last two fights.

Therefore, both fans and pundits alike wondered how he would bounce back against a tough opponent like ‘The Boston Finisher’. Unsurprisingly, like has done multiple times in the past, ‘Blessed’ Holloway put on an impressive display to secure a resounding unanimous decision victory. Many considered it as his best performance in a UFC octagon.

Max Holloway makes a bold statement regarding his last fight

In a recent interview, Ariel Helwani asked Max Holloway if he thought his last fight against Calvin Kattar was his best performance to date. He said, “No, I think that was my best performance out there. We get better every time, right? That’s what we did. And to do it against a guy like Calvin Kattar who many hold him as one of the great boxers, not in our division but all of UFC.”
‘Blessed’ continued, “To have that performance against him was great. But, like I’ve been telling everybody, it takes two man, It takes two to tango. Calvin deserves just as much praise as I do. He was in there taking it, he was in there giving it. Nothing but respect to him. But I really believe that was my best performance for sure… I just felt like I was untouchable in there”

Fans would certainly agree with this statement as it seemed as though Holloway had attained ‘God-mode’.

‘Blessed’ has been in the UFC since 2012. In that time he has put on some incredible performances against the very best at 145-pounds. Though he has come out on top quite frequently, Holloway has always bounced back strongly after a setback. This is what makes his performance against Kattar a bit more special.

Do you agree with Max Holloway’s statement? Was his fight against Kattar his best performance to-date?

The time was actually recorded as 11 seconds as it seemed the timekeeper was slow to react to events. This time stood for a number of years until Dana White was asked to review it. Although White credited Ludwig with the faster time the NSAC cannot amend their records.
